As you can see, Mr. Bryce enjoys a good
cookie. He also enjoys teaching at Appleby College! He started here
7 years ago, and he teaches English (Grade 10, Grade
12, and Grade 12 Writer’s Craft). He has also taught Grade 8 and Grade
11, in the past. He has led service trips to Mongolia, Ecuador, and
Morocco. He coaches soccer (Varsity Boys) and Tennis (Jr. Boys). But,
this fall he is taking time away from coaching soccer so he can spend more time
at home! Why? His son, Ellis, was born on April 24, 2014, and Mr.
Bryce is very happy and proud to be a father. Two years ago he spent the
school year living and teaching in Kuwait, which was a great experience. He
looks forward to future duties in Powell’s House!

2014/15 marks my 10th year at Appleby College. Although
I was born in Nigeria, I lived in the United States since 1987 before moving to
Canada in 2005. I am a member of the Science department, coach senior boys
soccer and run the Horticulture club. My educational background is in Plant
Biology/Genetics and I attended the University of Ibadan (Nigeria), Tuskegee
University (Alabama, USA) and Oregon State University (Oregon, USA). I love
American football (NFL), airplanes and my favorite country besides Canada is
New Zealand (I have returned 7 times). Interesting fact – I was assistant house
director of Colley house (2005-07).

First of all, thank you for all the warm welcome from
Powell’s house including directors, faculties, students. This is my first year
at Appleby College as a chemistry teacher. I taught senior mathematics and
chemistry in Mississauga for the past three years. I was born in Hong Kong and
moved to Mississauga 10 years ago to study high school. I studied Forensic Chemistry
in University of Toronto and dreamed to be a CSI. I found my passion in
teaching in my last year of university and decided to share my passion in
Chemistry to others. Not only I have a passion in Chemistry, I have a huge
passion in swimming from being a competitive swimmer since 8 years old. Also, I
love watching soccer games. I am looking forward to this amazing year in
Powell’s House.

Mr Cheng arrived in Toronto from
Hong Kong in the summer of 2007. Since September 2008, he has been
teaching Mandarin, and later on some Guidance courses, and coaching
instructional squash at Appleby College until now. Three years ago, when
Rosetta Stone was introduced to some of our French classes, Mr Cheng started
learning French which has become his most recent endeavor. In order
to improve his French, he traveled to Trois Pistols, a small town in Quebec,
and France over two summers to take courses. When he has developed strong
communication with his fifth language, he will move onto his sixth, because he
is a believer and doer of ‘Live long learning’. He became the day
students co-ordinator of Powell’s House in Sept 2012 and now ‘yellow’ has become
his favorite color. He is so proud and enthusiastic for being a member of
Powell’s House.
